Using Public Data to Inform Better Decision Making

The Association of Public Data Users (APDU) provides data collectors, analysts, and users an opportunity to engage with one another around cross-cutting data challenges and opportunities, and to hear from national and state leadership about their priorities for the year ahead.  The APDU 2016 Conference keynotes include: Katherine Wallman, Chief Statistician for the Office of Management and Budget; John Thompson, Director of the Census Bureau; Erica Groshen, Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics; and Bill Frey, author of the “Diversity Explosion.” Conference sessions include:

  • Using Public Data to Inform Better Decision Making:  Perspectives from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Laura and John Arnold Foundation, and the National Governors Association
  • Data Privacy and Security
  • Public-Private Partnerships in Delivering Public Data
  • Broadening Audiences Through Collaborative Events with Tech Experts
  • Using Data to Drive Change at the Local Level
  • Developing Effective Data Visualizations

With the Conference Chaired by Kevin McAvey, Associate Director at Massachusetts’ Center for Health Information and Analysis, federal and state health care data will be highlighted.  Presenting health care leadership include:  Chris Powers, Director of Information Products for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; Steven Cohen, former head of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) division;  Charles Rothwell, Director for the National Center for Health Statistics; and Natalia Bronshtein, Interactives Editor at the new, national STAT, health care publication.

The annual APDU conference provides attendees, from across industries and across the country, a common forum to discuss data challenges, to collaboratively work towards solutions, and to impact national public data priorities.  The APDU conference has grown over 40% since 2013.  Come join us this September in Alexandria, and see why.
