For more than a decade, Kevin McAvey has served as a transformative force in the health data landscape, bridging the gap between complex analytics and meaningful public policy. From his early tenure as a "star analyst" at the Massachusetts Center for Health Information and Analysis (CHIA) to his current role as a Senior Managing Director at Manatt Health, Kevin has established himself as a preeminent thought leader in the evolution of All-Payer Claims Databases (APCDs), healthcare cost control, and the strategic use of data to drive state-level health equity.
During his time at CHIA, Kevin was instrumental in elevating the agency’s most critical publications, demonstrating an early and sophisticated mastery of health information systems. His transition to Manatt further expanded his influence, where he has become a passionate advocate and advisor for healthcare cost transparency and the development of robust data infrastructures nationwide. Kevin’s work is characterized by a rare blend of intelligence, creativity, and strategic vision, ensuring that data is never just a collection of numbers, but a roadmap for better health outcomes.
Beyond his technical brilliance, Kevin is defined by his extraordinary character. Known for his "infectious optimism" and an uncanny ability to bring a "calm to the storm," he is a collaborator who thrives in the face of complexity. Colleagues across the industry cite his practiced, positive approach to problem-solving and his unique ability to articulate logic that cuts through professional roadblocks. Whether navigating the technicalities of claims data or advocating for system-wide reform, Kevin leads with a charm and professional grace that inspires those around him to be more courageous and effective in their own roles.
Kevin is a "passionate fighter" for the things that matter most—his family, his profession, and the pursuit of a more transparent, equitable healthcare system. His unwavering dedication to the health data community, coupled with his ability to translate intricate data into actionable policy, makes him an exceptionally deserving recipient of this recognition. His example reminds us all that while data drives policy, it is leadership, collegiality, and integrity that drive progress.
