Temporary Director of External Relations - Center for Health Information & Analysis (CHIA)

The Temporary Director of External Relations will assist the Executive Director in communicating the Betsy Lehman Center’s (BLC) current plans and future goals with a wide range of stakeholders and the media.  The Director will assist the BLC’s Executive Director in developing and implementing an external relations strategy, maintain a list of stakeholders including policymakers, researchers, and organizations representing healthcare providers and patients.  S/he will organize and participate in outreach meetings between the Executive Director and external stakeholders, and maintain records of those meetings
S/he will also daft memoranda, written reports, and presentations related to the BLC’s strategic planning process.

The ideal candidate will have five to seven years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) professional experience in communications, management, and strategy. A degree in public health, public policy, or communications is preferred, as is a background or demonstrated interest in patient safety.

Applicants also should have:

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple competing priorities on a fast track timeline
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a startup environment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement an external relations strategy
  • Working knowledge of the Massachusetts health care system and its regulatory, industry, and community stakeholders
  • Experience working with the media
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
