Job Summary

As the Senior Data Analyst at SpecialtyCare you will play a vital role in the demonstration of achieving Clinical Excellence through the capture and analysis of perioperative clinical metrics. As the subject matter expert you will utilize your advanced statistical knowledge to support clinical and business operations related to the delivery of care and demonstration of clinical excellence. This leader will be capable of performing a wide range of analytical tasks and demonstrate expertise in the development of high level reports that meet the individual and changing needs of the business regarding clinical outcomes, intraoperative processes, operational metrics, and comparative analysis. The analyst will support and operationalize the vision and values of SpecialtyCare which include integrity, teamwork, continuous improvement, along with sense of urgency and accountability. You will report directly to the CMO with strategic relationships internally to CEO, CFO, COO, and VP of IS.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Utilize complex SAS programming on a daily basis for a wide range of analytical tasks from simple one-time queries of the clinical data warehouse to extremely sophisticated production programs that involve a multitude of calculations. Understand the content and proper usage of the Company’s clinical data warehouse being queried, without the existence of user documentation.

  • Provide outstanding customer service to all external and internal customers. Develop and maintain effective relationships through effective and timely communication. Take initiative and action to respond, resolve, and follow up regarding issues in a timely manner.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and utilize in-depth knowledge to develop moderately complex programs in order to manipulate, summarize and structure the data for output and analysis. Utilize understanding of the data and the business to assist in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of analytical solutions for the business needs.
  • Develop and generate high level reports with varying delivery methods and output formats. Ability to determine patient record and data type inclusion criteria based on customer’s stated needs, and extract data from the data warehouse, evaluate whether the data values are within reason (mean, counts, range, etc.), and whether data cleaning is required. Develop detailed technical specification documents to accompany such data extracts, to be used by the customer as well as for internal reference.
  • Ensure efficient querying against large databases. Anticipate problems with data and build data validation and error alert messages into recurring reports. Perform comprehensive and efficient quality of control on analysis outcomes to ensure accuracy, completeness and integrity.
  • Create and maintain organized and well-documented SAS programs and other analysis-related documents.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Office for establishing project definitions and priorities and Information Services to access various data sources.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert for all types of clinical data that is loaded into various databases from multiple clinical systems. Assimilate and analyze data to allow scientific study for the purpose of research or performance improvement projects.
  • Mentor, lead, and oversee junior level Analysts within the department.
  • Ensure that all deliverables are of the highest quality and are accompanied by adequate amount of descriptive information.
  • Learn and adapt to new software packages, analytical tools and database environments, as required.
  • Understand and comply with HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Master other duties as appropriately assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in epidemiology, public health, statistics, data analysis, or equivalent background or bachelor’s degree with applicable work experience.
  • SAS base or advanced programming certification preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience using SAS Base and other clinical analytical tools.
  • Strong knowledge of outcomes research and analysis of health quality data.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence reporting tools (ie. Business Objects, Tableau, QlikView, LogiSML, SPSS, SAS Office Analytics, etc.).
  • Experience in project management.
  • Fluency with advanced features of Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet programs required.
